MY MISSION

In 2009, I joined the European GNSS Agency, a European institution in charge of specific aspects of European satellite navigation. My job at the agency is to develop products and applications that make use of satellite navigation, and to promote the use of satellite navigation in different fields of application: transport, location services, and many other areas.

MY PATH TO SPACE

I come from an area in Italy that has a long tradition in the aeronautics business so I have grown up seeing airplanes, factories of airplanes and mythical aviation people. This partly influenced my decision to join the space profession. But I should also say that I was not really a technologist, someone really passionate about micro-technology when I was a teenager. My passion was more for humanity; my dream was to help change the world, to make a better world, and I think that space reconciled these two dimensions, the technology dimension and the dimension of doing something for people, that can be useful for people.

MY ADVICE TO SPACE GIRLS

I would like to tell girls thinking about a profession in space and science that the profession is demanding but it's possible to reconcile it with a personal life and with a family life. I am the mother of a seven year old boy, Francesco, who is also very passionate about space. One of our favourite games together is to launch the Galileo satellite with a toy rocket. And my dream for the future is to take him to a real launch at the European space port in Kourou.
