I am the payload assistant manager for a small, but very interesting, telecommunications mission, Sat-AIS, where from a low earth orbit, we observe ships within the immensity of the ocean, because satellites are the only way we can actually detect ships. And this allows us to survey the activity of ships in the ocean, to detect if there is any illegal activity going on, if the ship is behaving correctly in respect to the environment, for example. Or we can track how merchandise moves from one place to the other.WHY I LIKE MY JOB
I think the thing that is most satisfying is the knowledge that you have managed to do something that is useful for people. In my case what would bring enormous satisfaction is if we get to launch the satellites we are now building with the industry, and if they work and if the data is there, and if people find the data useful and if it improves the quality of life and the understanding of how, in this case, merchandise travels across the world.MY ADVICE TO SPACE GIRLS
You don't need to be born with very special qualities and you don't need to be extremely gifted. It's hard work and the little things you do everyday that bring you a brilliant career. I would say that for almost all fields and most definitely in the space sector.
